Second-grade student delivers Thanksgiving meals to firefighters

Not everyone gets the chance to be with family on Thanksgiving, so a Howard County second grader wanted to make sure first responders had a nice meal.Layla Looby delivered turkeys to firehouses across Howard County. The Fulton Elementary School student started a fundraising campaign. She then partnered with the organization Food on the Stove to make it happen.Her generosity made the day a little brighter for the department.”I gave the turkeys because I know the firefighters do a lot of stuff,” Layla said.”We are grateful for her efforts, and again, to promote healthier eating habits for the fire station,” Howard County Fire Chief Louis Winston said.Layla doesn’t just admire the work of firefighters. Her family knows firsthand what its like in the service because Layla’s father is a former public information officer for the fire department.
