Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have come under fire over their bombshell Netflix docu-series after weeks of speculation around the new bombshell revelations they could make in their eagerly-awaited programme. The show, touted by the streaming giant as “unprecedented” and directed by Emmy award-winning director Liz Garbus, was criticised for failing to meet expectations.

Commentator Nile Gardiner joined the litany of critics, branding the programme “monumentally boring”.

He said: “Perhaps the most striking thing about the new Meghan/Harry Netflix propaganda documentary is just how monumentally boring it is. It is basically several hours of whining by two extremely privileged, ultra woke and uber-wealthy narcissists living a life of tremendous luxury.”

The show’s lack of substance or new information caught many royal critics off guard. The first volume of the show includes the media’s treatment of Meghan before and after her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan’s complicated relationship with her father and allegations of racism in the Royal Family.

While the show attracted a record-breaking 2.4 million viewers on its launch day – beating The Crown – royal commentators criticised their attempt at shining a light on their love story.

David Haigh, chief executive of Brand Finance, which has analysed the monarchy’s value to the UK economy, said: “They are trying to become the next Kardashian family. And they are using the fame and notoriety of the monarchy as their stepping stone to get there.”

“No one would take the remotest bit of interest in either of them if they weren’t strongly associated with the UK monarchy.”

Celebrity commentator Perez Hilton royal expert Kinsey Schofield on the To Di For Daily Podcast: “They are boring. To my expert observation, what Meghan and Harry are doing is they clearly sat down, studied everything that Michelle Obama and Barack Obama have done over the last five years, and are modelling themselves after that.”

In an opinion column for Sky News Australia, The Australian’s Media Writer Sophie Elsworth said part one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s docuseries on Netflix was “boring” and “more of the same”, adding: “You’ll probably fall asleep when you’re watching it.”

“It’s more of the same whinging, complaining.”

Commenting on the series, GB News presenter Anne Diamond threatened to cancel her Netflix subscription after Meghan and Harry’s docu-series “really put you to sleep.”

She added: “I feel so strongly about it now I really want to cancel my Netflix subscription.”

The couple offered insight into their love story, including Meghan Markle’s first meeting with the late Queen. While she admitted the tradition of doing a curtsy in front of the Queen surprised her, her attempt at re-doing it on the Netflix show sparked outrage among royal commentators and viewers.

TV producer Laurie Zaks said the gesture showed her “level of narcissism” on “full display”: “Harry’s face during her “curtsy” was painful. Whatever you think of the royals they are his family, and she isolated “H” from his brother&grandparents. keep a low profile?”

ITV News Royal Editor Chris Ship noticed Prince Harry looked a little “uncomfortable” about his wife’s curtsy. At the same time, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said: “Meghan telling her curtsy Queen story is almost as painful as watching her tell the soap story for the 7,638th time.”
